Here’s a little bit about us… (Available roles further below)

The Green Man, Ropsley is the area’s top-rated pub & restaurant on TripAdvisor (in fact we’re the No1 Pub in Lincolnshire too at the time of this going to print) and we strive to delight all our customers in just getting basic hospitality right!

We’ve won the local CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR multiple times, we won the Grantham Taste Award, we’ve were crowned winners for the East of England Countryside Alliance Awards, we’ve featured in the Good Beer Guide every year since 2018, we’ve just picked up our TripAdvisor “Certificate of Excellence” for the fifth year running and we regularly feature in The Good Food Club’s publications.

The Green Man’s dining business has (at least) quadrupled in the last 3 years and we’ve ambitious plans to grow our customer base even further through stretching the boundaries and genuinely getting the basics right “first time, every time”.

We’re relentless in delivering GREAT food, GREAT beer and GREAT hospitality each and every day.

In 2023 and beyond, we’re looking to strengthen the team further, delivering exceptional customer engagement and memorable food experiences.

chef

(flexible working hours available. 2, 3, 4 or 5 day a week options to be discussed to work around you).

As part of the Chef team at The Green Man, you’ll be a “jack of all trades”, ensuring we continue to “wow” customers and keep our little, old pub going full-pelt right the way through the trading day!

From shooting breakfasts to busy lunches, afternoon teas to evening dining, the role’s variety offers some genuine breadth; something very rare in most catering businesses.

With a rota built around some consistency for you and the existing team to flex with a good work-life balance (childcare, etc…), we aim to ensure our team have plenty of time to enjoy with their own family and friends.

We’re not inventing this position just to make up staff numbers...we’re increasingly busy and require an extremely flexible, confident individual that can bring some genuine value, character and energy to the team. Competent and passionate, you’ll add some genuine value in our day to day operations under the wing of our Head Chef, Emma Vickers, alongside 4 other chefs.

We’ve already progressed 2 apprentice chefs through the ranks in the last few years and our other chefs have gone on to gain exposure across all our special events and menu-styles and we’re keen to offer the same opportunity for development (at any level) with the successful candidate.

BAR & RESTAURANT SUPERVISOR

30-35hrs a week.

The hospitality at The Green Man is what sets us apart from other venues. Professionalism, blended with a casual and relaxed atmosphere is a fine balance, but we’re looking for an experienced individual who is able to execute this brilliantly.

Good telephone manner, exemplary interpersonal skills, teamwork, the willingness to learn and the relentless desire to “do better” are the kind of traits we’re looking for. This role would require an experienced, competent individual who can work at pace and whom exudes both maturity & positivity. You’d be responsible for some opening and closing shifts and would be bringing noticeable, added-value to the overall proposition of The Green Man.

We’re passionate about our food AND our drinks range, so a confidence in up-selling is preferential. Religiousness in administrative, cleaning and operational tasks is a must too, alongside setting the benchmark for the rest of the front of house team.

The work environment (both behind the scenes and with our customer base) is subsequently incredibly enjoyable when delivering the very best of experiences. The entire team is focussed upon making sure this happens, each and every day.

What you'll need...

A genuine, pleasant demeanour, taking enjoyment in engaging with a wide range of people!

To be passionate about all aspects of food and drink whilst also having the attitude to work (and play!) alongside our growing team.

A "want to work” attitude… We don't carry dead wood.

The ability to travel to work (we’re based about 6 miles out of Grantham).

To enjoy the buzz of being busy and getting stuck in. We're a small pub, but you'll need PACE and RESILIENCE to work alongside us at our busy periods.

High standards of cleanliness and food hygiene awareness.

A good level of spoken English.

What you'll get...

A GOOD, competitive rate of pay (we expect real commitment, so we reward well). We also operate a VERY good bi-annual bonus scheme for all team members, alongside a monthly share of tips.

Additional qualifications: If you’ve already some experience but are interested in formalising some advanced/supervisory qualifications, we’ll look to get you learning whilst earning with our external training firm who support our team members with nationally recognised courses. External courses are also encouraged and funded for those really keen to become the best at what they do.

A refreshingly different work experience with a menu you’ll be proud to be serving up.

A working environment that will enable you to meet some extremely pleasant people… The Green Man seems to attract the most wonderful of customers, where our local community and regular diners reciprocate the welcome and warmth we offer.

You’ll be offered opportunities and the autonomy that will energise you and allow you to bring your own ideas to the table as to how we can continue to improve upon what it is The Green Man offers.
